Is Marie Callendar’s Coconut Cream Pie ok for vegetarians?
Concern by Kayla: Is Marie Callendar’s Coconut Cream Pie okay for vegetarians?
I am wondering if there is something in one of these pies that would NOT be okay for a vegetarian to consume? (I am NOT vegan….just vegetarian)
This is the ingredient list:
Complete MILK, Drinking water, Half AND 50 % (MILK CREAM), SUGAR, VEGETABLE SHORTENING (May possibly Include PARTIALLY HYDROGENATED SOYBEAN, COTTONSEED AND/OR PALM KERNEL OILS), ENRICHED FLOUR (WHEAT FLOUR, NIACIN, IRON, THIAMINE MONONITRATE, RIBOFLAVIN, FOLIC ACID), COCONUT, MODIFIED Food STARCH, EGG YOLKS, High FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP, SALT, DEXTROSE, SODIUM CASEINATE*, (A MILK By-product), Synthetic Taste, POLYSORBATE sixty, SORBITAN MONOSTEARATE, XANTHAN GUM, GUAR GUM, PROPYLENE GLYCOL (Additional TO RETAIN FRESHNESS), SODIUM METABISULFITE (Extra TO RETAIN WHITENESS), Coloured WITH BETA CAROTENE. May Contain TRACES OF PEANUTS AND/OR TREE NUTS.
This may well be a shocker…but I asked this query to get an solution. Not to be lectured about my eating procedures.
Very best reply:

Whole milk and Egg yolks are bestial protean.A genuine vegetarian would not try to eat that.

This pie is technically okay for vegetarians, but not okay for vegans.
If you already bought it, eat it. But you can make a better pie using soy milk and coconut milk with an all-vegetable-shortening crust.
It looks to me as though it is safe for vegetarians. It is vegans that don’t eat milk and egg. It doesn’t have gelatin or anything like that, so I would say so. Although I don’t typically eat food with ingredients that I am unaware of what they are. But to the best of my knowledge, I would say there is nothing in there that is not vegetarian approved. I always find that if I am uncertain about an ingredient, it also helps to googel it to find out what the unknown ingredients are made of. Hope I helped.
