Covering the ground with plastic? No. it’s not environmentally friendly. Yes, you won’t be dumping toxins like herbicides and pesticides and fertilizers on it, but you’re also removing an area from providing any sort of habitat or food for insects and animals and plants. And any additional plastic in the environment cannot be called “earth friendly”

There are ways to growing things other than turf grass that take much less care and attention. Groundcovers, vegetable gardens, flowers, shrubs, trees….anything living that does require mowing, and periodic applications of chemicals is an improvement. Google “grass-free yards” and you’ll find tons of ideas.

Question by : I am working on a project with artificial turf and spray paint. How can I keep the paint from flaking off?
Whenever I stroke my hand across the grass roughly, the paint flakes off. I tried a spray clear gloss that is supposed to seal and protect the paint but it did not work, even with 3 layers.

I do not think you will be able to paint the artificial turf if three layers dont stick. It sounds like the green in the turf is part of the chemical process in the factory. You cannot make a similar effect by hand. I would give up on painting it.
